Yes. And it’s one of the few stacking questions where the mix is genuinely better than either half. Mind Lab Pro has no caffeine in it, which is exactly why coffee sits well next to it.
I get asked this a lot, and it usually arrives worried. People assume a brain supplement and a stimulant must clash. Here it’s closer to the opposite, and one ingredient is the reason.
So here’s what I’ll cover:
- Why theanine and caffeine are a real pairing, not a marketing one
- The 100 mg problem, and what your mug size does to it
- Timing, and the order that gives people the jitters
- When I’d tell you to skip the coffee instead
The one ingredient that decides this
A serving has 100 mg of L-theanine in it. Theanine is the amino acid in green tea that takes the edge off caffeine without taking the lift away. It’s why a strong matcha feels different from an equally strong espresso.
People buy theanine on its own just to put it with their coffee. You already own some. That’s the whole answer.
What I notice, and my notes say the same thing every time I’ve run this, is that it flattens the spike. Same alertness. Less jaw-clench. And a much gentler landing about 3 hours later. It does not make caffeine stronger, and anyone telling you it does is selling you something.

Your mug size matters more than you think
The pairing people actually study is roughly equal parts caffeine and theanine. So 100 mg of theanine sits nicely beside 100 mg of caffeine.
Now go and look at what you’re really drinking. A mug of filter coffee at home is about 95 to 120 mg. Good match. A large americano from a coffee shop can be 225 mg or more. At that point your theanine is outnumbered better than 2 to 1, and you’ll feel the caffeine doing its usual thing.
That’s not a disaster. It just means the smoothing you read about gets thinner the bigger your cup gets. I drink one mug, so the ratio works out for me. If you drink 4 cups a day and you want that effect, buy plain theanine separately (it’s cheap, and it’s one of the few things I’d genuinely bother stacking). The 100 mg here was picked for the formula, not for your coffee habit.

Take the capsules first
Capsules with water, then coffee 20 or 30 minutes later.
The label asks for an empty stomach. Black coffee on its own is fine. But if you take yours with milk and a pastry, you’ve just put breakfast between the capsules and your bloodstream.
The order people get wrong is a big coffee first thing, then the capsules an hour later. Now the caffeine has already peaked on its own, and the theanine turns up on the way down. Same 2 things, worst possible arrangement.
One more rule, and this one is from the rhodiola rather than the coffee. Nothing after about 2pm. Not capsules, not coffee, not if you’d like to sleep.

When I’d skip the coffee
Two cases, and I mean both.
First, if you’re taking this for anxiety rather than focus. Caffeine will undo a good chunk of what you paid for. Theanine takes the edge off a stimulant. It doesn’t cancel one.
Second, during your first 4 weeks, if you’re testing it properly. Keeping caffeine steady while you trial something is the entire point. Start the supplement and change your coffee in the same week and you’ve learned nothing about either one. I’ve made that mistake and had to start over.
Same coffee, same sleep, same time of day, 4 weeks. Then change one thing.

Conclusion
Coffee is fine here, and a bit better than fine. The formula is caffeine-free and carries 100 mg of theanine, so the two work together rather than against each other.
Capsules first, coffee 20 minutes later, nothing after 2pm. Watch your cup size if you care about the smoothing, because a 225 mg coffee-shop cup swamps it. And if you came here for anxiety, the coffee is working against you whatever else you take.
That would be it folks. Questions in the comments and I’ll get to them.
